Xiaomi 12 Pro Unboxing
This is not only the first Smartphone to release in 2022 but the world’s first mass-produced Smartphone to use sony’s new imac 707 camera sensor and not only is this xiaomi’s first phone to release with QUALCOMM’s new snapdragon 8 gen1 chipset but xiaomi’s very first Smartphone to release with a low temperature polycrystalline oxide display that can supposedly dynamically refresh its display between 1 to 120 hz and being that it has first released here in china I have managed to snatch one up quite quickly that being said the prices at the top right hand corner reflect the current Chinese price which I’ve converted into global currencies since a global launch has yet to be announced the Xiaomi 12 pro may very well be cheaper than last year’s mi 11 pro as well as the revolutionary mix 4 due to its lack of an under display selfie camera and ip water resistant rating but does its new triple 550 megapixel camera setup new display and latest flagship chipset from QUALCOMM justify its drawbacks let’s find out in this unboxing and initial review of the Xiaomi 12 pro.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro Design, Build and Case
The xiaomi 12 pro comes in four different color variants namely a blue pinkish purple it actually translates to purple black or the color that i have here which is green and this is the only version to debut with vegan leather it feels absolutely amazing in the hand and its touch is quite satisfying as well it makes it a tad lighter too but a smidge thicker we’ll get to that in a sec but as of right now the overall design I feel is the best looking xiaomi device I have ever laid my eyes on slapping on that back cover not so much since they still just include a silicon case in the box nevertheless it’s a silicon case it’s a free case it comes in the box gets a slap on day one but i do recommend using it without a case if you do decide to pick up the vegan leather.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Specifications (Hardware)
Moving on to the actual specs inside of the phone it is kitted with a 4600 mAh battery and 120 watt wire charging 50 watt wireless charging with a new in-house surge p1 charging chip of course it also has that brand new snapdragon 8 gen 1 chipset run on four nanometer process no technology but do bear in mind that this time around there is no ip certification what has stuck around is the gorilla gloss victus display and of course an aluminum frame the leather version is however thicker at 8.66 millimeters thick when compared to the glass box 8.16 though it is one gram lighter at 204 as opposed to 205 grams.
We have a power button on The right hand side as well as a volume rocker at the bottom we have a dual sim 5g standby tray there is a water Resistant seal over there even though It’s not ip certified usb 2.0 type c port first you’ll speaker at the bottom Second dual speaker at the top and of course this is paired alongside homocotton and dolby atmos and we still have an ir blast over here.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Camera Test
Turning things to the front of the screen we are Treated to a 32 megapixel selfie camera though it is not underneath the display like we saw with the mix 4 taking a selfie compared to the iphone and pixel The iphone to me still looks the best in terms of detail but I guess just a bit too much detail the xiaomi doesn’t really show as much detail and the pixel definitely looks the most natural and when flicking over to the portrait mode over here the xiaomi has pretty much no edge detection whatsoever I can see a tad bit of edge detection on the pixel 6 pro as well as on the iphone if you look around my hair and my ears over there xiaomi does such a great job at edge detection and when it comes to taking a selfie video the xiaomi 12 pro is limited to 1080p and 60fps the pixel 6 pro can also do 1080p and 60fps but it can also do 4k at 30 over here and the iphone can do 4k all the way up to 60. it’s a bit of a bummer to not see 4k at least at 30 on the selfie cam but we’ll deep dive more into this one in the full review in the coming days.
We do have a performance mode that we saw recently on miui 12.5 which is great and i use that performance mode when running antutu which we’ll get to in a sec because of snapdragon 8 gen 1.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Antutu Benchmark Scores
The snapdragon 8 gen 1 octa-core cpu yielded an antutu score of 1 million 7 512 points the highest i have ever seen not even just on my channel just ever in terms of antutu version 9. Now just like last year’s me 11 and me 11 pro.
Xiaomi 12 Pro Display Features
We do have a wqhd plus 1440p display over here but this time we have dynamic refresh rate which we’ve been asking xiaomi for so long to do but i did enable an fps console within developer options and you can choose between 60 90 and 120 fps which is great you can also use the auto recommended they do recommend to use auto because this is what truly shines in terms of ltpo technology but i never really got an odd number between 1 and 120 it was either sitting at 60 or it was sitting at 90 or it was sitting at 120 so it’s not really dynamically adjusting i went through a couple apps and hopefully this does get fixed in a future software updates but that dynamic one to 120 hertz refresh rate panel is paired with 180 hertz touch sampling rates over here it makes for some nice smooth scrolling around we’ll get to some gaming in the full review but as for the display it is a 6.73 inch amoled 20 by 9 aspect ratio curved display but this time it is not quad curved thank goodness i cannot stand the curves at the top and bottom it is just dual curves on the sides of the device it is an e5 amoled panel with 1.07 billion colors it is 10 bit hdr 10 plus dolby vision 112 dcr p3 and 140 srgb color gamut rating we also have a crazy brightness of 1500 nits peak brightness and that all of that and more yields to either matching or setting new records on displaymate.
Fingerprints Sensor and Other things
Powering on the device and getting to the optimized miui 13 software which we’ll touch on in a bit we of course haven’t always on display here thanks to the amoled panel and we have an under display fingerprint sensor as well once again thanks to it being an amoled panel we have loads of different always on display options and we can have it always on some xiaomi devices can’t always have it on we do have super wallpapers over here the same ones that we saw last year I thought they’d be new ones but it says stay tuned for new releases so hopefully we get to that there is new molten glass wallpapers not the biggest fan of them but they they look pretty I guess classy you could say and turning off the screen you can see that wonderful super wallpaper and unlocking it with the 2d face unlock which is of course being used by the selfie cam and it does a great job nice and fast but once again not as secure as something that you would see on an iphone with 3d face unlock we are treated to miui 13 over here running on android 12 it doesn’t quite feel like a big upgrade more an iterative upgrade but apparently it’s more about optimizing their device with the hardware inside of it and the software and all that jazz so I really hope this is gonna happen and yes of course there’s google all google stuff works on xiaomi phones as well as the play store even on the chinese version there is a new widgets folder over here which they hopped on about in the event and though it’s cool it’s mainly only targeted to chinese users and if you want to go to normal widgets it can take you a full 30 seconds to get it and once you get there they’re not in alphabetical order so it’s really hard to find and if you do want to search for them by just searching at the top such as searching for youtuber vs since we just made a widget for youtube music it doesn’t findit at all though we still can find it in the widgets menu once we actually deep dive into it.
